Emma set for winter break

Top-class German filly Mi Emma is unlikely to be seen again until 2008.

Having won the 1000 Guineas in her native country by an emphatic nine lengths back in April, the filly finished second behind Indian Ink in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

A subsequent disappointment in France was soon forgotten when Mi Emma regained the winning thread with a convincing success in a Group Two event at the end of August.

Connections had mentioned the Hong Kong Mile as a potential target for the well-travelled filly soon after, but trainer Andreas Wohler has now decided to scrap those plans with next year in mind.

He said: “She’s fine but she has started to get a (winter) coat now and probably won’t run again this year.

“She started pretty early back in March so we want to give her a break and maybe she will start again early next season.”
