Getaway supplemented for Arc

Baron Georg von Ullman, owner of the retired Manduro, will have a runner in Sunday’s Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe after all.

Connections have confirmed that Getaway will be added to the field at tomorrow’s supplementary stage and insist they are running him on his own merits.

“We’re not supplementing him just to see our colours turn up in the race,” said the owner’s racing manager, Paul Harley.

Manduro was favourite for the Longchamp showpiece but suffered a career-ending injury when winning the Prix Foy over the course and distance last month.

Getaway had been overshadowed by his stablemate but has always been well thought of by trainer Andre Fabre – although he is better known as a stayer.

He won the 15-furlong Prix Kergorlay at Deauville in August and has since finished a close second in the Prix Gladiateur over two miles at Longchamp.

“It’s his first crack at a Group One but Mr Fabre has always insisted that one day he would bring him back to a mile and a half and a Group One,” Harley continued.

“He always said he had the class and ability to take his chance in such a race. Mr Fabre told me so 12 months ago.

“It’s nothing new to us and it wasn’t a surprise to me that Mr Fabre suggested a few weeks ago that he was going to supplement him.

“He is very happy with the horse and feels he warranted being supplemented. You have to respect everything Mr Fabre does.”

Getaway is generally available at around 33-1 for Arc glory.

Anton Chekhov was the only defector at the latest forfeit stage leaving 14, headed by Derby winner Authorized, standing their ground at this juncture.
