Chapple-Hyam waits on weather

Peter Chapple-Hyam will make a late decision on the participation of both Declaration Of War and Al Qasi at Ascot this weekend.

Woodcote Stakes winner Declaration Of War could have his first outing over a mile in the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes but Chapple-Hyam would like to see more rain at the Berkshire venue.

The Newmarket trainer said: “Whether Declaration Of War runs in the Royal Lodge is dependent on there being cut in the ground.

“If he doesn’t run this weekend, there are other options. He could go to France the following weekend (for the Prix Jean-Luc Lagerdere) or he could go for the Horris Hill.”

Al Qasi is entered in the John Guest Diadem Stakes on Sunday but Chapple-Hyam has underlined he will also need ease in the ground if he is to take his chance.

“I’m desperate to run Al Qasi but it would have to be good ground or softer for him at Ascot. He won’t run if it is ’good-to-firm’,” he told www.peterchapplehyam.com
