Perfect ground at Doncaster

Doncaster clerk of the course Jon Pullin reports everything to be set fair for tomorrow’s opening day of the Ladbrokes St Leger meeting.

The world’s oldest Classic returns to its rightful home following a massive redevelopment of the facilities on Town Moor.

The track had a dress rehearsal last month when they staged a one-day trial fixture and Pullin expects the ground to be in top condition for their prestigious four-day festival.

“We are good to firm, good in places at the moment. We have continued to water and we have just done the straight today,” he said.

“I would expect to start tomorrow on the easier side of good to firm.

“It’s a dry forecast for the next few days with no significant rainfall so it should be a few good days for all.”

Although the track raced last month, a few finishing touches needed to be added but Pullin reports those tasks to have been dealt with in good time.

“There will be no structural changes from the last meeting but all those jobs that were not quite completed then will be finished off now,” he added.

“It’s all been done and we are ready to go now.

“It’s very exciting and we are looking forward to the next four days, especially the St Leger on Saturday.

“It looks like being a good race and, fingers crossed, we will have a good field on the day.”
