Angel looks heavenly ride - Hills

Jockey Michael Hills is expecting a bold show from recent York scorer Dark Angel in the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster on Friday.

Jockey Michael Hills is expecting a bold show from recent York scorer Dark Angel in the Polypipe Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster on Friday.

After going down by just two lengths to Winker Watson in the July Stakes at Newmarket, trainer Barry Hills sent the two-year-old to the St Leger Yearling Stakes on the Knavesmire and he stayed on strongly to win the valuable prize by a length.

The Acclamation colt returns to the minimum trip on but Hills junior does not believe that will be an inconvenience.

He told At The Races: “He has bags of natural speed so the five furlongs should be fine.

“He actually pricked his foot before York last time which they didn’t tell me about, but it didn’t seem to stop him. He’s an extremely good ride and he won with a bit in hand.

“I’m not too worried about the draw as it generally doesn’t make much difference at Doncaster but we will find out about that later in the week.”
