Fast Company, who impressed many with his classy victory in York’s Acomb Stakes, is likely to have his next start in the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket in October.

Brian Meehan’s colt entered the picture for the Stan James 2000 Guineas with his three-and-a-half-length success over Lucifer Sam and is a 16-1 shot with the sponsors for Classic glory.

He still holds a place in next month’s Urban-i Champagne Stakes at Doncaster but Newmarket is the preferred option.

Fiona Shaw, representing Fast Company’s owner Earle Mack, said: “It looks like his next race is going to be the Dewhurst – it’s very unlikely he’ll run in the Champagne Stakes.

“He’s in full training at the moment and has come out of his last race very well.”
