Kempton set to honour Clark

Kempton Park are looking into naming a race in memorial to their popular president and former chairman Nigel Clark, who died on Saturday.

Clark was also a Jockey Club member, BHB director, trustee of Racing Welfare and ex-president of the Racehorse Owners’ Association, but was particularly affectionate about Kempton, and jump racing especially.

Brian Clifford, clerk of the course at the Sunbury track, said: “Ideally a race at the first jumps meeting of the season would be a fine way to remember Nigel, and we will be sitting down with the management to look into something.

“Nigel was an ambassador for life, really, and he will be sorely missed here.

“He was instrumental in bringing jump racing back here and we send our condolences to his family and wife Jane.”

Clark, 71, was well known for his fundraising efforts, particularly for Great Ormond Street Hospital, the St Johns Ambulance Service and the Starlight Foundation.
