Gale blown away by Proviso

Proviso looked a smart filly when holding Laureldean Gale in the Prix du Calvados at Deauville.

The winner, owned by Khalid Abdullah and trained by Andre Fabre, won a prolonged battle with the Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained runner-up in the hands of Stephane Pasquier.

Both juvenile fillies had won their only previous start and drew a long way clear of Lady Deauville, trained by Paul Blockley, in third place.

The winner was installed as 8-1 favourite by William Hill for the Stan James 1000 Guineas, while Laureldean Gale was trimmed from 12-1 to 10s.
