York team monitor weather
Conditions may be on the easy side for the start of the three-day Ebor meeting at York next week.
The going was officially described as good on Friday, but rain is forecast over the weekend before the weather settles down in time for the popular fixture.
“We’ve had two nice drying days but the forecast is for rain this weekend - probably up to 15 millimetres,” said clerk of the course William Derby.
“High pressure is set to build next week with bright weather, a bit of sunshine, a bit of cloud and temperatures of about 20 and 21 degrees – perfect conditions for racegoers.
“We’ll see how much rain we get over the weekend but we’ll probably start the meeting on the easier side and if the sun shines it might dry out nicely as the week goes on.
“Looking at the entries for all the days, the quality is fabulous. We’ve invested record prize money and are absolutely delighted with the result.
“We look like having quality feature races with wonderful supporting cards.”
