Dunelight looking to shine
Dunelight will bid to atone for a near miss at Glorious Goodwood in the totesport.com Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury on Thursday.
Clive Cox’s four-year-old bravely tried to make all in the Betfair Cup but was cut down late on by high-class duo Tariq and Asset.
But Cox is hoping the step back to Group Three company and a return to a mile can see Dunelight claim his first success at Pattern level.
“He’s very much on target and he’s in great form with himself,” said Cox.
“Just focusing on my own horse I never thought for one minute that anything would come by him at Goodwood.
“Obviously Tariq is a very serious performer and I don’t think we have lost a great deal in defeat to be honest.
“He’s versatile with regard to the trip. He is a Listed winner over a mile. It was more of a concern that he was returning to seven (furlongs) the last day.
“He’s gone close in a Group Two so I would be very much hoping that he has a Group Three in him and he is on very good terms with himself at the minute.”
