Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Red Rocks may bid to retain his title without the aid of another run.

Brian Meehan’s four-year-old was last seen when failing to land a blow behind Manduro and Dylan Thomas in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Meehan then decided to give the Galileo colt a break before bringing him back for an autumn campaign and he could now go straight to America.

“Red Rocks has done his first piece of work since he’s come back from a break and he looks on very good form with himself. Richard Hughes rode him and he was very pleased with him,” said Meehan.

“The target all season has been a return to America for the Breeders’ Cup Turf that he won last year.

“He is in the Irish Champion Stakes (September 8) and that race is still under consideration at the moment, it depends if he is ready in time,” he told At The Races.

“If we get a run into him before the Breeders’ Cup that would be ideal but if we didn’t manage to, I have no concerns about that either.”
