Cox keeps the faith

Clive Cox hopes Don’t Forget Faith can build on her promising debut success in the skybet.com Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket.

The filly beat subsequent Princess Margaret winner Visit on her racecourse bow in a hot maiden that saw the introduction of Oaks winner Light Shift 12 months previously.

Cox believes his filly can progress along the same lines, with the seven-furlong Group Three event the first port of call.

“Undoubtedly, the Sweet Solera is a hot race and I don’t expect it to be easy. I think that stepping up a furlong will help her – she will probably even stay a mile this year,” said Cox.

“We were delighted with her debut and the form has worked out exceptionally well with the second filly going on to win the Princess Margaret.

“She (Don’t Forget Faith) has won her maiden but now she has got to take the next step and I really hope that she’s capable of doing it,” he told www.newmarketracecourses.co.uk.

With her debut success coming with give underfoot, conditions are expected to be much quicker – but Cox is not too concerned.

He added: “I don’t think it will be an inconvenience – she is a very light-actioned filly.”
