Chapple-Hyam unveils Tariq plans

Peter Chapple-Hyam is hoping to step Tariq up in trip following his impressive success at Glorious Goodwood.

The three-year-old completed a hat-trick of victories over seven furlongs when claiming the Betfred Cup, supplementing his triumph in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.

Although Chapple-Hyam has entered Tariq for the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock on September 8, the trainer is planning to move up in trip with the Kyllachy colt rather than dropping back.

“He’s in the Haydock race, whether or not he will run I don’t know – we will wait and see,” he said.

“He may go to the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on September 29, we will see how it goes. Ideally I would like to step up to a mile with him.

“I really would like to go to the Breeders’ Cup Mile,” Chapple-Hyam told At the Races.

The Newmarket handler also has Dutch Art entered in the Sprint Cup but his participation will depend on the Haydock ground.

“We will go to the Haydock race provided the ground has some cut,” Chapple-Hyam added.

“He just needs soft ground. I don’t want to keep running him on fast ground or we are just going to sour him.”
