Jumba Jet-powered in Cork romp

Jessica Harrington’s Jumbajukiba (9-2) turned the Listed Platinum Stakes at Cork into a procession.

The four-year-old gelding, formerly in training with Amanda Perrett, was settled in second by Davy Condon and travelled with ease behind the pacesetting Duff.

As soon as Condon asked his mount to quicken, the pair stretched away to win by four and a half lengths from 11-8 favourite She’s Our Mark, with Duff staying on for third.

John Harrington, husband of the winning trainer, said: “We have (bloodstock agent) Maxine Cowdrey to thank for this as she bought him for 18,000 guineas at the horses-in-training sale as no-one wanted him.

“We bought him to go hurdling and as far as I know, that is still the plan - I’m not sure where he will go next though.

“We’ve had a great run on the Flat this year and we have some nice two-year-olds still to run.”
