Marchand D'Or the star at Deauville
Dutch Art again had to settle for second as Marchand D'Or powered to back-to-back wins in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville today.
The Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained Dutch Art had found just one too good last time out in the July Cup at Newmarket and was a strong fancy to go one better over this six and a half furlongs.
He picked up well when asked by Jimmy Fortune but had no answer to the late charge of Marchand D'Or, who came widest of all under Davy Bonilla.
Mick Channon's Silver Touch ran a big race to be third.
Winning trainer Freddie Head said: "This is a very good horse and I would like to dedicate this win to my team as he is not an easy horse to handle."
Bonilla added: "It was a different type of race to last year. The ground was different, but he showed just how good a horse he is."
Coral eased Dutch Art to 7-1 (from 9-2) for next month's Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock, with Marchand D'Or, who had finished only fourth in the July Cup, an 8-1 chance from 14-1.
July Cup winner Sakhee's Secret is the 2-1 market leader for the September 8 race.
