Portman claims Yarmouth prize
Jonny Portman’s Cocabana made all the running to deny hot-favourite Alabama Spirit in the Letherby & Christopher Fillies’ Maiden Auction Stakes at Yarmouth.
The latter was a popular choice to build on her good second at Catterick at the beginning of the month and was accordingly sent off the 15-8 favourite.
However, she couldn’t land a blow against the front-running 100-30 winner who bowled along in front and turned the screw over a furlong out to collect by two and a half lengths under Tom Queally.
