Gleam set to shine at Goodwood
Arabian Gleam has been given the go-ahead to contest the £150,000 Betfair Cup on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood.
Having finished third behind Tariq and US Ranger in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, the Jeremy Noseda-trained charge will now bid for glory in the Group Two feature next Tuesday.
Beaten less than four lengths at the Royal meeting on only his third racecourse appearance, connections are expecting another bold show.
Bruce Raymond, racing manager to owner Saeed Suhail, said: “We were delighted with his run in the Jersey and he has come out of the race in very good shape.
“We toyed with the idea of running him in handicap company, but decided he should stick to Group races.
“He looks like he has improved from his Royal Ascot run and he is working very well now. The owner is keen to go to Goodwood and we are very hopeful.
“A mile will be no problem for him, but seven furlongs is fine for him at the moment. Good to soft ground should not be a problem. I think he has a very good chance.”
Among the potential opposition is Kevin Prendergast’s Haatef, the John Gosden-trained Royal Oath and Arabian Gleam’s Ascot conqueror Tariq.
