John Quinn netted one of the summer’s most valuable jumps prizes as Kings Quay finished with a flourish to land the totescoop6 Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen.

The course and distance winner gave Quinn a deserved moment in the limelight when winning at the Grand National meeting, and he followed up in this £40,000 contest, run in testing conditions.

Having had a spin on the Flat last month, the five-year-old cut through the pack under Dougie Costello turning for home but waited until the very last moment to lunge for the lead.

The 12-1 chance got his nose in front right on the line to deny Prince Ary by a short head in a photo finish, with Ellerslie Tom the same distance back in third.

Costello said: “He loves passing horses and his confidence has grown and grown.

“He just gets there every time. I was a bit further back than I wanted to be on this ground, but he picked up nicely.

“John has done a super job with him, but he is not very big and you would worry how far he could go up the handicap.”
