Hannon has super sprint
Richard Hannon will launch his usual strong assault on the Weatherbys Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday, for which 31 possibles remain.
The master of East Everleigh has five entries at the five-day stage – Cracking, Reel Gift, Don’t Tell Anna, Cake and Penrice Castle – as he chases a seventh winner in the five-furlong contest.
However, the weights are headed by Jamie Osborne’s Royal Ascot winner Drawnfromthepast, who won the Windsor Castle by a head.
Neville Callaghan’s Red Alert Day and George Margarson’s Magical Speedfit, a half-brother to Hoh Mike, are also towards the head of the weights.
The in-form Bryan Smart could saddle Guertino, who finally broke his maiden at the fourth time of asking at Carlisle, while Clive Brittain has two possibles in the shape of Jebel Tara and Mansii.
Karl Burke could run Scanno and Ponder Anew, while Stan Moore could also be doubly represented with Dubai Dynamo and Miss Versatile.
Ed Vaughan’s Fanatical, eighth in the Queen Mary, and John Jenkins’ Spitfire, unplaced behind Winker Watson in last week’s July Stakes, are other interesting possibles.
