You'resothrilling scores last-gasp win
You'resothrilling made up for an unlucky run at Royal Ascot with a last-gasp victory in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes.
Second behind Nijoom Dubai in the Albany Stakes at the Royal meeting when a hot favourite, her supporters kept the faith and she was sent off the 6-4 market leader.
Kept to the stands rail by Mick Kinane, she raced for most of the final furlong on her own as the action unfolded on the far side where Francesca D’Gorgio cut out the pace with Loch Jipp.
But it was 40-1 shot Festoso who came late to finish a length behind in second, with Queen Mary winner Elletelle a further neck away in third.
Kinane told Channel 4 Racing: ``She's nice, a lovely filly, and when she steps up in trip she's going to get better.
“She’s done it nicely. It was make or break as I went with them but to have the rail was ideal for us.”
The winner was cut to 10-1 favourite from 16-1 by VC Bet for next year’s Stan James 1000 Guineas.
Harry Dunlop was pleased with Festoso’s effort, adding: “We rode her differently today and she is entered for the Lowther which is a possibility.”
Elletelle’s trainer Ger Lyons was not at the track but his brother, Shane, said: “She missed the kick and she is the best filly in the race.
“We were giving the winner 3lb and coming up the slow side was a massive disadvantage. Ger mentioned the Phoenix Stakes (Curragh, August 12) against the colts but we can go for anything we want now.”
