Speciosa a Falmouth doubt

Speciosa appears unlikely to run in the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.

Speciosa appears unlikely to run in the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket on Wednesday.

“I’m afraid she’s showing all the signs that she’s coming into season,” revealed trainer Pam Sly.

“If that’s the case, we’ll take her out of the race on the vet’s certificate.

“She showed in the Lockinge that she’s no good when she is in season.”

The news comes as an added wrench to Sly after last year’s 1000 Guineas heroine returned to her best form last month.

Speciosa finished a valiant second behind Peeping Fawn in the Group One Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh.

“Mortification has taken place,” added the Peterborough handler.

“It was such a good run at the Curragh and we were really looking forward to running her.

“But at this stage is seems unlikely – we’ll see where we are in the morning before making a decision.”
