Vhujon handed Salisbury mission

Vhujon could be given the chance to redeem his reputation following a disappointing display at Sandown last week with an outing at Salisbury on Saturday.

The David Evans-trained juvenile appeared set for a profitable campaign when sluicing up in a good time on his Bath debut, after which he came home well from a bad draw to finish eighth in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot.

However, he dropped away tamely to trail home last of the eight runners at Sandown on Friday, and Evans is looking to the Milford Hall Hotel Novice Auction Stakes for Vhujon to get his career back on track.

He said: “I don’t know what happened at Sandown. It might have been the soft ground or perhaps they went too quick, but I was disappointed with him.

“He looked good when he won at Bath and he did run well at Royal Ascot.

“I’ll drop him back now to try and see how good he is and he could run in a conditions race at Salisbury on Saturday evening.”
