Brittain targets Falmouth repeat

Darrfonah will attempt to give Clive Brittain back-to-back victories in the UAE Hydra Properties Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket a week tomorrow.

The veteran Newmarket trainer sent out 50-1 stunner Rajeem to plunder the Group One prize last summer and is eyeing a repeat of similar proportions.

Darrfonah won a Listed race at Newbury on her latest start after failing to cut any ice in the 1000 Guineas and Oaks, although last October she was second to dual Guineas winner Finsceal Beo in the Prix Marcel Boussac.

“Darrfonah is working very well,” said Brittain.

“Her win last time has given her a lot of confidence and she’s coming through good.”

On the same card, Brittain plans to run Cute in the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Cherry Hinton Stakes.

The juvenile filly was a creditable fifth to Nijoom Dubai in the Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot but is a maiden after two outings.

“She ran well at Ascot and goes to Newmarket with some very good work behind her,” the trainer continued.

Brittain decided not to run Mastership at the Royal meeting and has him pencilled in for the biggest race of the week, the Darley July Cup on Friday week.

“He’s in very good form. We missed Ascot as we thought the ground would have been against him.
