Boscobel blow for Frankie

Frankie Dettori is unable to ride the Sheikh Mohammed-owned Boscobel in Sunday’s Budweiser Irish Derby.

Frankie Dettori is unable to ride the Sheikh Mohammed-owned Boscobel in Sunday’s Budweiser Irish Derby.

The Italian jockey could have deferred a two-day whip ban he received at Sandown on June 15 if his team applied to the Horseracing Regulatory Authority by 5pm on Monday.

Dettori’s agent Ray Cochrane told the Racing Post: “Frankie could have ridden in both the Irish Derby and the Pretty Polly (on Saturday), but unfortunately we have missed the deadline.

“It is a real sickener.”

Boscobel, trained by Mark Johnston, was supplemented for the Curragh showpiece following his all-the-way win in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot last Friday.
