Fallon wins Listed race at Limerick

Kieren Fallon was in winning form at Limerick this evening as he guided Honolulu to victory in the Listed McInerney Homes Martin Molony Stakes.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained three-year-old was a far from straightforward conveyance in the closing stages as he wandered about and appeared to hit the running rail.

But Fallon, who returned to race-riding earlier this month, kept the 11-4 favourite together and the pair had a cosy length and a half to spare over Athenian Way at the line.

“The team is in great form, with winners every day, which is what you want at Royal Ascot,” he told At The Races.

“Things have just been a bit slow to get going for me, Aidan has been concentrating on England and the big races over there, but the (Irish) Derby is next weekend and we have a lot of big races coming up.”

Fallon was also pleased to see his old partner Yeats power to back-to-back successes in the Gold Cup.

He added “We thought Yeats had sharpened up, he’s been winning over shorter distances and he did it in great style. He’s gone from strength to strength.”
