Stratford forced to abandon

Officials at Stratford were forced to abandon Sunday’s scheduled meeting after the nearby River Avon flooded the track.

Over two and a half inches of rain had fallen in the Warwickshire area in the last 48 hours, nearly 64mm.

And with the Avon being in such close proximity to the track, once the banks had burst, there was unfortunately only going to be one outcome.

Clerk of the course Stephen Lambert had called an inspection for 11am but nearly an hour before the scheduled look, he was left with no choice but to abandon the meeting.

“We have been forced to call it off,” said Lambert.

“It’s not the rain that is the problem, the river has burst its banks meaning the track is now under water.”
