Peeress tops Lockinge acceptors

Michael Stoute’s Peeress will bid for back-to-back victories in Saturday’s Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury.

The Group One contest over a mile has been won by some fantastic horses in recent years including Medicean, Hawk Wing and Rakti.

And Stoute’s six-year-old mare, who runs in the famous Cheveley Park Stud colours, enjoyed her finest hour when beating Majors Cast by a length and three-quarters 12 months ago.

Stoute also runs last year’s Jersey Stakes winner Jeremy, who made a winning bow over a mile at Sandown.

Red Evie, who rose through the ranks to land a Group One last term, makes her seasonal reappearance for Michael Bell.

Last year’s 1000 Guineas winner Speciosa, who ran with great credit when chasing home Manduro at headquarters last month, aims to get back on the winning track for Pam Sly.

Godolphin are represented by new recruit Ramonti while Aidan O’Brien relies on Marcus Andronicus.

Criquette Head-Maarek’s Passager represents French interests while Jeremy Noseda’s Secret World completes the eight-strong line-up.
