Astronomer Royal wins French 2000 Guineas for O'Brien

Astronomer Royal, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Colm O'Donoghue, won the Poule d'Essai des Poulains at Longchamp.

Manning and Bolger suffered further heartache when Creachadoir was swallowed up in the final strides of the Poule d'Essai des Poulains by the Aidan O'Brien-trained Astronomer Royal.

Manning again kicked for home early in the straight and appeared to have stolen the race.

However, Colm O’Donoghue passed nearly all of his 13 rivals in the straight to give O’Brien yet another big-race success.

The Ballydoyle handler also claimed third place with Honoured Guest.
