Thiella handed Trial task

Thiella features among 12 hopefuls set to go to post for the Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown on Sunday.

Dermot Weld’s filly has not been seen since beating Red Rock Canyon last October but had been quietly fancied for Newmarket’s 1000 Guineas last weekend until connections elected to bypass the race.

Also declared on Sunday is John Oxx’s Xinji, Aidan O’Brien’s Nell Gwyn and the Michael Halford-trained Majestic Eviction.

Gaudeamus and Alexander Tango will also go for gold, along with Impetious, Rock Lily and the David Wachman-trained trio of Divine Night, Liscanna and Najavo Moon.

The field is completed by Kevin Prendergast’s Ela Enta, who bids to build on two promising runs this season.

After scoring in maiden company at Tipperary, the Royal Applause filly finished second in a fair race at the end of last month.

“She was only just touched off in a winners-of-one race at Navan last time and she’s come on from that,” said Prendergast.

“That looked a fair race and hopefully she’ll run a big race on Sunday.”

Ela Enta is not engaged in the Boylesports 1000 Guineas and connections are keen to play things by ear.

“We don’t really have any plans at the moment but we’ll just take it one step at a time with her and see how we go,” Prendergast added.
