O'Connor wins in Copenhagen
Cian O'Connor took first blood for Ireland at this morning's speed class in Copenhagen, Denmark, where the Irish team will do battle in the Nations' Cup tomorrow.
Crossing the line almost three seconds ahead of Dutch runner-up Maikel van der Vleuten, O'Connor was riding the eight-year-old Irish-bred mare Connahy Clover.
This early win at the Danish venue will help to lift Irish confidence ahead of Friday's Nations' Cup, where the 27-year-old O'Connor will be joined on the team by Jessica Kurten, Captain Shane Carey and Cameron Hanley.
Another Irish team will also contest the Austrian Nations' Cup at Linz tomorrow, with both squads hoping to add vital points to the table that could ensure Ireland's re-admittance to the Samsung Super League in 2008.
