Tariq out to make amends

Peter Chapple-Hyam is hoping the ground stays soft at Longchamp to help Tariq in his bid for glory in the French 2000 Guineas.

The Newmarket trainer is expecting an improved display from the Kyllachy colt on Sunday after his below-par run in the Greenham Stakes last month.

Chapple-Hyam admitted Tariq was not at his best when fifth of six to Major Cadeaux at Newbury, but he has been happy with his work since.

Chapple-Hyam said: “Tariq is on course to run in the French 2000 Guineas. He wasn’t at his best at Newbury in the Greenham but his work has improved since then.

“The ground is currently soft at Longchamp and if stays like that, it would be in his favour. He won his maiden in the soft at Newmarket last May,” he told www.peterchapplehyam.com.
