Monzante ready to roll
Connections of Monzante are hoping for a good run in the Aktiv Kapital UK Ltd Dee Stakes at Chester tomorrow.
Roger Charlton’s charge was beaten two and a quarter lengths by the Henry Cecil-trained Light Shift on his reappearance three weeks ago.
And the gelding’s chances in the Group Three contest were boosted on Wednesday when his Newbury conqueror ran out an impressive winner of the Cheshire Oaks.
“He did well over the winter and ran very nicely in a conditions race at Newbury when he was third last time out. We were pleased with him,” said Lord Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Prince Khalid Abdullah.
“He’s a handy horse so I would hope he’d handle the track well enough and Roger’s horses are in good form.”
Monzante holds an entry in the King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot later in the season.
