Aidan O’Brien claims leading Vodafone Derby fancy Mount Nelson is on the “easy list”.
Last season’s Group One Criterium International winner was not among Ballydoyle’s eight inmates entered for Sunday’s Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial at Leopardstown.
“At the moment, Mount Nelson is on the easy list as we decided to ease off with him when he didn’t blow off as quick as the other Guineas horses last week,” said O’Brien.
“He’s in plenty of races but we haven’t picked any target for him so we’ll have to wait and see.”
Of his remaining Derrinstown candidates, O’Brien told the Racing Post: “They’re all intended runners at this stage but we’ll see how they get on with their work during the week.”
Eagle Mountain, fifth behind Cockney Rebel in the Stan James 2000 Guineas on Saturday, could next run in the totesport.com Dante Stakes at York on May 17.
Fourth in the Racing Post Trophy on his penultimate start, the Rock Of Gibraltar colt was an eyecatching performer in the Classic having raced on the stands’ rail.
O’Brien added: “He’s a possible runner in the Irish Guineas but the Dante and the French Derby are also options – it will be one of those three for him next time.”
