Lockinge on the agenda for Decado

Decado is likely to bid for Group One glory in the Juddmonte Lockinge Stakes at Newbury later this month.

Third in last season’s Irish 2000 Guineas behind Araafa and George Washington, Kevin Prendergast’s charge failed by just a short head and a head to make a winning reappearance at Leopardstown recently.

“We might run him in the Lockinge. It was the forfeit stage today and I left him in,” said Prendergast.

“He was a bit unlucky at Leopardstown. The race was not run to suit him and he came home very well after he gave them a bit of start.

“He was not too far off George Washington in the 2000 Guineas at the Curragh last year,” the County Kildare trainer told At The Races.

Prendergast is also hoping his stable stalwart Mustameet can cap a great career with victory at the top level this campaign.

He said: “He’s been the star of the stable for the last three or four seasons. He’s in the Mooresbridge at the Curragh and we might just try the Tattersalls Gold Cup if we miss horses like Dylan Thomas.

“It would be very good if we could get a Group One for him.”

The six-year-old has won one Group Two race and three Group Threes but has been beaten in two attempts at the highest level.
