Prince enjoys Lingfield spin
Strategic Prince pleased handler Paul Cole in an all-weather workout at Lingfield on Saturday as preparations for the Stan James 2000 Guineas continue to gather momentum.
Not seen since finishing third behind Teofilo and Holy Roman Emperor in the Dewhurst Stakes in October, the son of Dansili is currently rated a 10-1 chance by the sponsors for the upcoming Classic.
“Strategic Prince worked at Lingfield with a couple of other horses over a mile, and he was fine, Cole explained.
“Everything went according to plan. We’ve taken him to the racecourse on a couple of occasions recently because there has been so little growth of grass at home due to the dry weather.
“The faster the ground the better for our colt,” Cole told the Racing Post.
However, while the ground at Newmarket was yesterday described as good to firm, officials are set to adopt a watering-as-necessary policy.
Clerk of the course Michael Prosser said: “The likelihood is that we will water on Monday and finish on Tuesday and then water again at the end of the week to be where we want to be, which is beautiful racing ground with no jar.”
