Mick Channon is hoping to have a crack at the Darley July Cup with new Australian recruit Mutawaajid.

The three-year-old has developed into one of the top performers in Australia for Gai Waterhouse but the colt, who has won five of his six starts, is now heading to Europe.

Channon told the Racing Post: “Obviously I’m very pleased to be having him. He’s done very well for Gai Waterhouse and is a pretty decent horse.

“I think the July Cup would be a very feasible target.”

The son of Redoute’s Choice suffered the only defeat of his career when dead-heating for fourth in the Randwick Guineas over a mile last month.
