Authorized skips Stan James Guineas for Dante Stakes
Authorized will bypass the Stan James 2000 Guineas despite delighting connections in a racecourse gallop at Newmarket.
Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam was more than satisfied with the Montjeu colt after he worked under Frankie Dettori but has decided to sidestep the May 4 Classic.
Authorized will instead make his seasonal bow in York’s totesport Dante Stakes on May 17, en-route to a crack at the Vodafone Derby in June.
“We are going to go down the Dante and Derby route and not going for the Guineas,” Chapple-Hyam confirmed. “That was always the plan.
“We brought him here to wake him up a little bit and he’s gone well. Frankie was very happy and said this will switch him on.
“He’s a typical Montjeu and does everything so easily.”
Dettori was similarly delighted with the twice-raced colt’s performance.
He added: “I was really happy with that and he’s done really well physically over the winter.
“I’m glad we came here as he’s so switched off and this will have really brought him forward.
“He will come out of this bouncing now.”
Authorized won the Racing Post Trophy on just his second start last term and is a best-priced 8-1 with Ladbrokes for the Derby at Epsom on June 2.
