Albertas Run proved game for favourite-backers as he just hung on for glory in the John Smith's Extra Cold Handicap Hurdle.

Sent off the 9-2 market leader, Noel Fehily’s mount travelled well before taking it up after the second-last flight.

However, Albertas Run had to pull out all the stops as Lyes Green stayed on up the straight while Refinement tried to steal the prize down the outside.

But Albertas Run was always just holding them and ran out a half-length winner, with a length and three-quarters separating the second and third.

Fehily said: "He's very, very tough, he's a lovely horse and he hasn't stopped improving yet.

“He’s won his last two races and it panned out nicely for him today. He’ll make a lovely chaser."
