Cloudy Lane is to be put away for the season with a view to being prepared for the John Smith’s Grand National next year following a fruitless trip to Ireland.

Cloudy fine after Easter setback

The seven-year-old is reported to be none the worse for his run in the Irish Grand National on Monday when he unseated his rider Tony Dobbin at the third-last fence after being badly hampered.

“He’s come back well and I think he’s probably finished for the season now,” Ginger McCain, assistant trainer to his son, Donald jnr, told At The Races.

“This time next year we would like very much to think he’ll be going to Aintree for the big one.”

Cloudy Lane gave McCain jnr a first Cheltenham Festival success when winning the Kim Muir Challenge Cup last month.
