Classic options for Words

Connections of Tattersall Stakes winner Thousand Words are undecided over which 2000 Guineas their charge will run in.

Connections of Tattersall Stakes winner Thousand Words are undecided over which 2000 Guineas their charge will run in.

A winner of three of his five starts as a juvenile, the Barry Hills-trained colt found the testing ground against him when fifth behind Authorized in the Racing Post Trophy.

“Thousand Words is having a Guineas preparation but whether it is the French, Irish or English is the debate at the moment,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner Khalid Abdullah.

“He didn’t act in the ground in the Racing Post Trophy. The winner won well though, we have no complaints on that score.

“Although he had won on soft he didn’t like it and he didn’t get the run of the race. He might have been a bit nearer, but we are not saying he would have won.

“Barry has been pleased with him through the winter.”

Grimthorpe also had news of Vodafone Oaks favourite Passage Of Time, who will be attempting to put Henry Cecil back in the big-time this season.

“We live in hope. She is on course for the Musidora, which is obviously in mid-May,” continued Grimthorpe.

“She’s not doing very much at the moment and the winter hasn’t helped, but it is the same for everyone.

“All the fillies will be behind, but they have to be ready at some stage.”

Thousand Words is a 33-1 chance with sponsors Stan James for the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, while Passage Of Time is 5-1 market leader for the Oaks.
