Mohayer will bid to return to winning ways in the Grade Two totepool Premier Kelso Hurdle at the Borders venue on Saturday.

The five-year-old was a distant third to Amaretto Rose in a similar event at Haydock in January before idling in front in a Uttoxeter handicap, in which he was caught close home by Wizard Of Us.

“He probably should have won that day, but Jason Maguire had not ridden him before,” explained the Cheshire trainer.

“It was my fault as I just told Jason to kick on, when really we should have waited.

“There’s no Amaretto Rose here this time and I think the Charlton horse (Bywell Beau) will be a danger having won there before but this is a different race.

“Our horse has run well at Kelso, is improving in every race, and deserves to take his chance.”
