Wetherby forced to abandon

Officials at Wetherby have been forced to abandon today’s meeting after recent heavy rains left patches of false ground at the track.

Although the Yorkshire venue experienced a relatively dry night, with only one millimetre of rain falling, clerk of the course James Sanderson deemed conditions unsuitable for racing after holding a 7.30am inspection.

“Sadly we’ve been forced to abandon,” he said.

“It’s not so much due to waterlogging. It is wet through but it’s just quite false in places and we just felt it wasn’t safe enough.

“There is more rain on the way this morning and this afternoon so that will make it untenable.

“We needed a dry day and night to make it and I’m afraid we haven’t had that.”
