Kerins second in Florida Cup

Darragh Kerins came close to overhauling American champ Beezie Madden in last night's WEF Challenge Cup in Wellington, Florida.

The 32-year-old US-based Irish rider picked up $5,500 (€4,189) for a second place, finishing just less than one-and-half seconds off the pace of Madden, the 2006 World Equestrian Games Silver Medal winner, in a 15-horse jump-off.

Kerins, who was riding the 10-year-old Argentinian-bred gelding Hot Wheels, said afterwards: "He jumped superbly. I’ve had him for two years.

"We’ve taken our time with him. We’ve had our ups and downs, but he seems as solid now as he’s ever been"
