Options open for Acambo

Plans for Acambo are fluid following his disappointing show in the totesport Trophy at Newbury on Saturday.

After victories in the Swinton Handicap Hurdle and The Ladbroke, the David Pipe-trained grey was backed into favouritism ahead of the ÂŁ150,000 showpiece earlier in the week.

Eventually sent off at 11-2 behind 9-2 market leader Tarlac, Acambo weakened a long way from home in the soft ground and was eventually pulled up.

Pipe reports him to have come out of the race without any obvious problems, but will bide his time before deciding where the Champion Hurdle entrant goes next.

“Acambo seems OK this morning. He was disappointing yesterday but perhaps the ground was a bit soft for him,” he said.

“I don’t really know why, but he didn’t run his race for one reason or another.

“I’m not sure what the plan would be now as David Johnson (owner) is away, but we’ll speak to him when he gets back and go from there.”
