Acambo in line for Newbury return

Ante-post favourite Acambo has been confirmed on course for the totesport Trophy at Newbury on February 10.

Owner David Johnson was thrilled to see his improving charge land The Ladbroke last time, after which he decided to keep the six-year-old over hurdles for the rest of the current season.

“The Arkle was a possibility but he won the Ladbroke at Ascot impressively enough and we thought we owe it to the horse to see how good he is over hurdles,” Johnson told At The Races.

“He’s an improving horse and we’ll see how he goes in the totesport Trophy as we’d like to keep him as a novice for next year.

“I spoke to David (Pipe) and of course we’ve got to get there – as it’s a couple of weeks away yet – but the intention is to go.”
