Ayr call off Monday meeting

Monday’s meeting at Ayr has been abandoned due to a waterlogged track.

The Scottish venue has been battered by the stormy weather over the last couple of days and with more adverse conditions forecast, including some snow, clerk of the course Katherine Self has made an early call.

“It’s waterlogged,” she said. “The weather here has been appalling and we have had 132 millimetres of rain in January alone, which is significantly more than we had in the autumn when it was bad enough.

“We are forecast a maximum of 15 millimetres of rain over the next 48 hours and we could get some snow showers on Sunday afternoon.

“We are also forecast gales of an average 40mph with gusts up to 50mph so we don’t have a hope of racing.

“We had a look round with the HRA course inspector this morning and we felt it best to make a decision now.”
