Pancake flattens rivals

Pancake made light work of his rivals when making all to land the Berkshire Stand Bookshop Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle at Newbury.

Philip Hobbs’ 1-4 favourite was only shaken up by Richard Johnson to forge clear of Risk Runner and score by 17 lengths.

Owner Andrew Cohen said: “He was bought to go chasing so anything he does over hurdles is a bonus.

“He has now won two races here so is suited by a galloping track and I will have to discuss options with Philip, but the totesport Trophy could be an option.

“He warrants an entry at Cheltenham but I doubt if he would go there.”

Stan James gave Pancake a 25-1 quote for the totesport Trophy, while William Hill introduced him at the same price for the JCB Triumph Hurdle.
