Oneway heads VC possibles

Oneway must carry top weight if he lines up in the Victor Chandler Chase at Ascot on Saturday.

Mark Rimell's 10-year-old, runner-up to Voy Por Ustedes in the Desert Orchid Chase, is one of 12 confirmations at the five-day declaration stage for the Grade Two contest.

Nicky Henderson may run either Greenhope or Tysou, who won the 2006 renewal, which was run at Sandown.

Dempsey, Kalca Mome and Bambi De L´Orme chased Tysou home last year and could all reoppose in the two-mile-one-furlong heat.

Queen Mother Champion Chase third Mister McGoldrick is still engaged, while Paul Nicholls is double-handed with Andreas and bottom weight Saintsaire, ante-post favourite with the sponsors.

Venetia Williams' Jericho III and the Jonjo O'Neill-trained Hasty Prince complete the list of possible runners from Britain.

Leopardstown scorer Mansony, trained by Arthur Moore, is the sole Irish representative.

Bambi De L'Orme, a 12-1 chance with VC Bet, has put in some decent efforts this season.

Second to Saintsaire over the Victor Chandler trip at Newbury in November, the Ian Williams-trained gelding also fared well enough in the Castleford Chase at Wetherby.

The eight-year-old finished third to Calatagan but disliked the soft ground and will not run if the recent wet spell persisted during the week.

He said: "It really depends on the ground as it would need to dry up a bit.

"He's never been a horse who has acted on soft or sticky ground and it was very tacky at Wetherby.

"It was a confidence booster for him after his run at Ascot when he got into all sorts of trouble (he was pulled up two out).

"He's always been seen to better effect at a left-handed track but there is only one Victor Chandler."

Mansony's facile success at Leopardstown on Boxing Day has seen Moore's charge promoted to joint-favouritism with the sponsors.

VC Bet spokesman Neal Wilkins said: "Mansony was a 12-1 chance with us when the weights came out, but following his victory over Christmas and the raising of the weights he has been the significant market mover."

Conversely, Ladbrokes make Saintsaire their clear 100-30 market leader.
