Brookhouse hoping to be Lucky

Roger Brookhouse is hoping I’m So Lucky can go one place better than his stablemate Whispered Promises if he lines up in the Anglo Irish Bank Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown on Saturday.

The Warwickshire permit holder sent out Whispered Promises to finish a five-length second behind Noland last term and is targeting Royal Ascot winner I’m So Lucky at the two-mile race this time.

The five-year-old took the Listed Wolferton Handicap last June when with Mark Johnston and made a promising start to his hurdling career when third at Newbury last week.

“He will probably run but we will just wait until a bit nearer the time to see what the ground is like,” Brookhouse said.

“He ran on quite testing ground at Newbury last week and he seemed to handle it well, so we will just have to see what conditions are like with all the rain we have had.

“He’s a nice horse. I think he’s very classy and he did quite well on the Flat for Mark Johnston.”

Brookhouse has had the Grade One feature in mind for I’m So Lucky for some time, although he admits he has had to change his preparation plans.

“He’s in good order and the Tolworth was always the aim after we finished second with Whispered Promises last year,” he added.

“We are probably about a month behind with the horses and we would have liked to have run him two or three weeks ago, but there was nothing suitable.

“We will have to wait and see how things go but with the jumpers you are always looking towards Cheltenham and we hope he will be good enough to run there.”
