Jock takes President prize
Irish raider King Jock followed up his recent Abu Dhabi win with success in the Listed HH The President Cup back at the same track last night.
Following in the hoofprints of One Won One who took the seven-furlong feature for Joanna Morgan and Kieren Fallon in 2001, King Jock was always going well for jockey Pat Shanahan.
The five-year-old, who is trained by Robbie Osborne, was settled in behind before sweeping past National Captain to take it up a furlong out.
King Jock also won at the Carnival earlier this year for Erwan Charpy and will bid for further glory at Nad Al Sheba on January 25.
Shanahan said “That was absolutely brilliant and the furious early pace really suited him, especially over this seven-furlong trip.
“He has improved from that first run and I think that showed tonight. Obviously we will look at the Carnival now and he is a really nice horse.”
King Jock’s owner Jimmy Long has even loftier plans, adding: “We have been invited to the Group One Futurity Stakes on March 3 in Melbourne so will hope to take up that engagement. I am so proud of this horse and it is a great night.”
